GERTRUDE, OZ, & RAYE Convert CTA Train Into Premium Venue
Upon moving GERTRUDE, INC.’s global HQ to 2150 S. Canalport Ave., a creative business professional’s mecca situated in the heart of Chicago’s Pilsen arts district, the agency had its eye on an exceptional property in the building’s lot—retired CTA Train Car No. 2238—one of only four surviving cars of 150 made, from the historical CTA 2200 Series that traveled the city’s rail lines from 1969-2013.
Recognizing the train car’s unique potential, GERTRUDE approached the building owners with a name and brand activation concept to launch the property as a brand new event venue. Car 2238, now dubbed “OFF THE RAILS,” has been converted by GERTRUDE, along with agency’s Design, Branding, and Production division OZ MFG. COMPANY and Branded Architecture division RAYE, into a 380 sq. ft., premium event space featuring hard wood flooring, media capabilities, a service dry bar, and numerous interior/exterior branding opportunities. The venue is ideal for private events, tastings, screenings, and temporary creative workspace.
“OFF THE RAILS is a one-of-a-kind venue for Chicago, and a natural complement to the one-of-a-kind creative culture at 2150 S. Canalport. Activating the venue for GERTRUDE’s clients who work in innovation has been exceptionally well received, and complete proof of concept,” said GERTRUDE Founder, CCO Otis D. Gibson. “We look forward to seeing the next exciting transformation for Pilsen’s newest gem.”
